Blockage of the tubes that carry eggs to the uterus and where fertilization occurs is a cause of infertility. Sometimes the ends of the tubes are blocked and fluid accumulates in them, this condition is called hydrosalpinx. Treatment usually involves opening the tubes with laparoscopy or, if the tube is severely damaged, removing the tubes before IVF treatment.
