Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

Cervical cancer is one of the rare types of cancer that can be prevented through vaccination, which makes it different from most other cancers. This protection is made possible by the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine. The HPV vaccine is especially recommended for girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 15, as vaccination during this period provides the strongest immune response and the highest level of protection.

The effectiveness of the vaccine is not limited to women only.

  • In women, it provides strong protection against cervical (servical) cancer.

  • In men, it helps protect against cancers of the penis, anus, and the oral and throat mucosa.

Cervical cancer is most commonly seen in women between the ages of 20 and 65. One of the most critical aspects of this cancer type is that it can be largely controlled through early diagnosis, with significantly higher treatment success rates when detected early. For this reason, regular screening programs are essential.

Screening recommendations are as follows:

  • Pap smear test: Recommended starting from the age of 21.

  • HPV DNA test: Recommended starting from the age of 30.

When both tests are used together and the results are negative, screening intervals can be extended:

  • Pap smear every 3 years,

  • HPV test every 5 years.

In conclusion:The HPV vaccine is a scientifically proven and highly effective preventive health measure that reduces the burden of cancer not only at the individual level but also across society. Early vaccination and regular screening make it possible to largely prevent cervical cancer and detect it at an early stage. This issue is not a matter of personal preference but a public health responsibility based on prevention.🍀pebek
