To increase the yield of oocytes and embryos, we may schedule multiple egg retrieval procedures within a single menstrual cycle for patients with low ovarian reserve, those with limited time for fertility preservation prior to cancer treatment, or when follicles fail to grow synchronously during an IVF cycle. ----------o---------- Hello everyone, Today, I would like to talk to you a little bit about sequential egg collection treatments. -With the treatment protocols that we call 'DuoStim' in medical literature, it is possible for a woman to receive multiple egg development treatments and undergo multiple egg collection procedures within a single menstrual cycle. -We normally use this treatment in patients with low ovarian reserve, in patients whose follicles fail to grow simultaneously and reach maturity during an IVF treatment, or in patients diagnosed with cancer who have limited time, where we aim to obtain more eggs and embryos within the same month as much as possible. How do we apply it? -In a patient starting IVF treatment, during the treatment process where eggs are developed and grown with injections, once the eggs and the follicular structures carrying them reach maturity and retrieval size, we first perform the initial egg collection treatment.
-If there are still follicles that have not reached the desired egg collection size at this stage, we continue our egg-developing and follicle-enlarging injections after the first egg collection treatment in order to grow the subsequent (recruited) follicles of the patient.
-Usually within a week, we plan a second egg collection treatment to retrieve the growing subsequent follicles.
-These treatments are applied particularly by experienced teams in this field.
Today, in our 40-year-old patient who had a low ovarian reserve, we first performed the initial egg collection treatment. Afterwards, we continued our injection treatments for our follicles that had not reached the mature follicle size during the first egg collection treatment.
-One week later, with the second egg collection treatment, we obtained eggs for our patient once again, thereby increasing the number of eggs she obtained in a single cycle.
What is the purpose of this?
Our primary goal is to increase the patient's chances of obtaining high-quality embryos. Especially if we are planning a treatment protocol with genetic screening in a patient over the age of 40, we must monitor the embryos up to the 5th day so that this patient can undergo genetic screening. In order to increase our number of embryos reaching day 5, and consequently to increase our chances of obtaining embryos that are normal regarding chromosome count among the embryos we will biopsy, the more eggs we have and the more healthy embryos we have, the more successful our efforts to achieve this pregnancy will be.
Wishing you all a good day." 🌺🌸
